Abstract
This article attempts to explore the eroticism of Syeh Amongraga in Serat Centhini. The author uses Serat Centhini edited by Karkono Partokusumo (1985) and the latest contemporary novel by Elizabeth D. Inandiak with the title Centhini: Kekasih yang Tersembunyi (2018). This paper is a qualitative descriptive study using the perspective of
reviewing mystical theology and sexuality. The result suggests that Serat Centhini is a Javanese literary work containing erotic spirituality concerning the idea of “ngudi kasampurnaan†(seeking perfection), “manunggaling kawula lan Gusti†(integrating the servant with God), “pamongraga lan pamongrasa†(guardian body and guardian mystic
feeling), and erotic celebrations. The study of the Centhini opens a new horizon in contextual theology to view sexuality positively, especially in its encounter with the bible book Song of Songs.
