Abstract

This article attempts to reinterpreting the New Testament’s textsfrom the perspective of religious pluralism in Indonesia. Particularly, the meaning of Christ’s pleroma ‘the fullness of Godhead’, in whichthe Colossian community grapple with in Colossian 2:6-15, would bereinterpreted. Is this pleroma emphasized the exclusivity or even thesuperiority of Christ out of other religions or culture’s icon/fi gure/hero?Or, in fact, is this pleroma pushed the community of faith to move outto mixed and lived together in equality? Based on historical criticismapproach, the writer found that the pleroma, which is developed in thetext of Colossian 2:6-15, consists of full and total comprehension of thepleroma in the pluralistic context. The pleroma pushs its community tolive up the essence of self existence in the construct that is integrated withall other creation. In fact, the pleroma marks the perfectness of “Christ’svictory” fullfi led in the unity of all creation, not only in one religiousprimordial and exclusive border. Community has been more directed tobe wise on established relations, appreciated the traditions and also theleaders, and to admit the diversity, which means the uniqueness of everysingle person and creation, and maintain it for framed and stringed up therooms of pluralism. On this meaning, exactly, there is a correlation to theinterpretation of this text with interreligious context in Indonesia whichhas to be celebrated and grateful for over and over again.
