Abstract

On the basis of hermeneutical principles, the implementation of lectionary readings in liturgical services of the church has raised at least two important questions: “Is it acceptable or is it to be rejected”?  Some would argue that it is acceptable with the understanding that the whole message of the Christian Bible is united by and focused on the fulfillment of God’s promises in the Lord Jesus Christ. Others, however, would argue that it will be in contradiction with the independent character of each text of the Bible. The present paper will discuss these two arguments by emphasizing the fact that each text of the Bible has its own individual context that needs to be respected. The discussion will then provide readers of the Bible to decide a model of lectionary readings which does not betray the contextual independency of individual Biblical texts.
