Abstract

This article is a critique of theological education in Indonesia. It suggests that criticaldiscussions of theological education too often focus on curriculum (the content) or the methodsof education. However there are three other things that are more important than either contentor methods. The most important elements in education are the students, the teachers and thestructures of education. We should teach people rather than information. When we teach thereal people, we have to listen to to them, learn about their context and involve them in creatingnew ideas. Only true teachers who are also life long learners are really qualified to teach. Finally, we need to pay more attention to the structures of education. Structures can create apositive relationship between the student and the teacher so that the education is dialogical, dialectical and connected to real concerns that grow out of our context in Indonesia.
