Abstract
This article proposes a transformation of leadership in a congregation by transforming roles of cell leaders. The research departs from a concern that leadership in many churches—including Gereja Kristen Jawa (GKJ) Bekasi Timur—tends to be oriented and centralized to
ministerial offices (pastors, elders, and deacons). Consequently, the roles of lay leadership have not been given enough attention. This research employs an empirical-analytical approach—enquiring empirical perceptions of leadership in a congregation and analyzing them with church leadership concepts from Kevin G. Ford and E. Stanley Ott. The methods used in this research are qualitative field research (by conducting deep interviews) as well as literary research (using closelyrelated books and journal articles). The finding of this research suggests that shared leadership and ministry transforms centralized leadership
(autocracy) culture, making possible various ministries to be carried out in more vital and effective ways.
Abstrak
Artikel ini menawarkan transformasi kepemimpinan jemaat dengan mentransformasikan peran para ketua kelompok. Penelitian ini berangkat dari keprihatinan bahwa kepemimpinan di banyak gereja— termasuk di Gereja Kristen Jawa (GKJ) Bekasi Timur—cenderung berorientasi dan berpusat pada jabatan gerejawi (pendeta, penatua/tua-tua, dan diaken). Akibatnya, peran kepemimpinan warga jemaat biasa kurang mendapat perhatian. Artikel ini menggunakan metode empiris-analitis, yang menggali persepsi empiris kepemimpinan jemaat lalu menganalisisnya dengan konsep-konsep kepemimpinan gereja dari Kevin G. Ford dan E. Stanley Ott. Teknik yang dipakai dalam kajian ini adalah penelitian lapangan kualitatif (dengan melakukan wawancara mendalam) dan penelitian pustaka (menggunakan buku-buku dan artikel-artikel jurnal terkait). Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan berbagi kepemimpinan dan pelayanan memungkinkan kultur kepemimpinan yang sentralistik (otokrasi) ditransformasikan menjadi kultur desentralistik yang berbagi sehingga pelayanan-pelayanan akan berjalan secara lebih hidup dan efektif.
