Abstract
The conversion of the Gospel texts into the Javanese song (macapat) is a strategic effort to enroot the Word of God in the Javanese culture. The process of conversion requires a mastery of the formula of macapat comprising guru lagu, guru gatra, and guru wilangan. Sindhunata and Suwandi have conducted a research project on such conversion. This
article suggests that the method of lectio divina, as a tradition of bible reading in the Church to contemplate the word of God, can be employed in singing the Gospel macapat. Merging the two traditions helps believers experience the Word through the process of ngeningke cipta, nggegilut sabda, and nglelimbang sabda suci.
