Abstract

Genesis 5:1-32 contains the genealogy of Adam-Noah, written bythe Priest, covering 10 generations before the fl ood. The Priest‘s work isinteresting, because its form, content, and function are developed fromtheological perspective of human creation. That perspective emphasizesthat men and women are the “image of God” and they are blessed byGod. The blessing of God is clearly seen through the very fantastic agesof the ancestors and their abundant number of offspring. Therefore, thegenealogy has a theological function. Through the genealogy, the authorbequeaths the values of life which should be embraced by human beingas “the image of God”. Those values can be executed in the relationshipboth with the same ancestors in particular sense and with all human beingin universal sense.
