Abstract

This article is written based on the writer’s dissertation entitled “Blessed are the Peacemakers: Christian Religious Education for Peacebuilding in the Pluralistic Indonesian Context.”  This dissertation starts with a description of “religious” conflicts in Indonesia, which becomes a context for Christian Religious Education for peacebuilding.  What is so called “religious conflict” is in fact a very complex conflict, which has social, political, and economic dimensions.  To develop a Christian Religious Education for peacebuilding, Christian teachings that support peace become theological foundations.  Because the writer is a Calvinist, she draws from Calvin’s teaching on diakonia as a starting point to develop peacebuilding.  Using Thomas Groome’s “Shared Christian Praxis” approach to Religious Education, she develops a Christian Religious Education for peacebuilding that is relevant for Indonesian context.
