Abstract
The role of women is often debated in the context of the church. The texts of 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and 1 Timothy 2:11-12 are usually used to limit the role of women. This issue creates tension between church traditions and the need to accommodate women’s roles in ministry. This article aims to reinterpret the two texts by emphasizing that a correct understanding of the context can provide another perspective on interpreting the text. This article analyzes the words and phrases in the text to explore the meaning and consider the historical and cultural meanings in which both texts were written. Through an analysis of the text, this article shows that the prohibitions in the two texts are not universal and absolute but are influenced by the specific situation in the Corinthians and Ephesians. This article seeks to interpret these texts and calls on churches to evaluate their understanding of women’s roles and encourage inclusivity and recognition of women’s leadership in ministry. This reinterpretation is expected to open a more constructive dialogue on gender equality in the church context.
