Abstract
This article examines the perspective of the Maneo community on land and forest as identity. Based on an oral tradition, the Maneo people understand land and forest as medium for meeting Lahatala (the supreme god, the creator, the sacred) and their ancestors to interconnect with other creations. The destruction and control of the land of the Maneo people not only destroy their lives and future but also harm their cultural and religious identities. Using a qualitative research method, this article studies Maneo people’s views on land and forests in relation to their existence and identity. Through the presentation of Maneo’s perspective on U’puna maisi’a yari maisi’a as an entry point, this study explores the realities of land tenure and forest destruction in Maneo, and the way the church responds to the situation. As a conclusion, this article offers a contextual theology about humanizing humans in the concept of Maneo society.
Pertama-tama, penulis memperlihatkan perspektif orang Maneo tentang U’puna maisi’a yari maisi’a.
