Abstract

Abstract
This article focuses on developing comparative theology by comparing the struggles of women in Indonesian folklore and Mary in the Gospel. The folktales studied here are Malin Kundang and similar tales showing the relationship between a mother and her child. Using the comparative method, the struggles of women in these folktales and the image of God are first shown. In this light, Mary’s role in the Jesus event reveals her specificity, especially in her solidarity with Indonesian women and her relationship with Jesus as the exemplary Mother of the Church. As a result, the Gospel story, viewed comparatively, appears to be a light for the stories of women in their struggles.
